Refund Policy
Version 1.0 · Effective July 15, 2026.
This page explains when and how Digital Empire LLC (“Citation Safe,” “we”) issues refunds. It is a plain-language summary of, and companion to, Section 5 of our Terms of Service. If anything on this page conflicts with the Terms of Service, the Terms of Service control.
1. The verification guarantee — automatic refunds
If we stamp a citation VERIFIED on a paid check and that result was wrong — the cited authority could not in fact be found in the authoritative source — the refund is automatic. There is no negotiation and no human approval step on the refund itself.
Here is exactly how it works:
- For legal, tax, and medical results, use the “Dispute this result” control on the verification card in your report. FAR Check (government contracts) results do not yet have an in-product control — email support@citationsafe.com with your report link (the
/v/<id>URL) instead, and a human reviews it under the same guarantee. - Filing a dispute immediately re-runs the check against the same source the original verdict used, including the same case-name cross-check where the citation type supports one.
- If the re-check confirms the original VERIFIED result was wrong, the refund for that payment is issued automatically through Stripe. The failure is also logged to our public error rate at /quality.
One refund is issued per verification (this is enforced in our billing system, not just promised). Refunds are returned to the original payment method; your bank or card issuer controls how long the credit takes to appear, typically 5–10 business days.
2. What the guarantee covers — and does not
- Covered: the fee you paid for the affected verification. That is the full extent of the guarantee; it does not cover consequential losses (Terms of Service, Sections 5 and 8).
- Not automatic: disputes where the re-check does not confirm fault — for example, a result that appears to need an upgrade to VERIFIED, or a re-check clouded by a source outage — are escalated for human review rather than auto-resolved. You will hear back within 1 business day.
- Not covered: results of UNCONFIRMED, NOT FOUND, RETRACTED, or SOURCE UNAVAILABLE. Those verdicts tell you we could not or did not confirm the citation — they are the product working as designed, not an error to refund.
3. Subscriptions
Subscriptions are billed in advance and renew automatically until cancelled. You may cancel at any time and you keep access through the end of the period you already paid for. We do not charge cancellation fees. Cancelling stops future renewals; it does not by itself trigger a refund of the current period.
4. One-off document checks
One-off checks (for example the single-document tier) are delivered immediately on purchase. They are covered by the verification guarantee in Section 1 like any other paid check. If a one-off check fails to run at all because of a fault on our side, contact support@citationsafe.com and we will re-run it or refund it.
5. Sanction Shield
Sanction Shield is not currently accepting payment: its warranty terms are pending attorney review, and we do not charge for coverage that is not yet in force. See /sanction-shield/terms for the current status.
