Citation Safe for Word
A task pane inside Word that scans your open document, verifies every citation against primary sources, and shows results without leaving your draft. Currently in review for the Microsoft AppSource directory — while that's pending, install it directly with a sideload manifest (2 minutes, works today).
Install (sideload)
- Download the manifest: manifest.xml
- In Word: Insert → Add-ins → My Add-ins → Upload My Add-in, then choose the downloaded file.
- The Citation Safe button appears on the Home tab. Click it, then "Verify citations in this document."
On Word for the web or Word for Mac, use the same Insert → Add-ins → Upload My Add-in path. For firm-wide deployment via IT (Microsoft 365 admin center → Integrated apps), share the same manifest.xml with your admin.
What it checks
Existence against CourtListener's database of published opinions, quote match against the opinion's actual text, and — on paid Citation Safe tiers — proposition support. Free tier runs directly from the add-in with the same 3/month limit as the web app. Not legal advice; human review always required.
