Vendor API — terms of service
Effective July 18, 2026.
1. Service
CitationSafe (Digital Empire Holdings LLC, Wyoming) provides a deterministic legal-citation verification HTTP API ("the Service") documented at /docs/api/v1. The Service checks whether case-law citations exist in the underlying authoritative reporters and (optionally) whether a claimed quotation matches the opinion text.
2. Pricing and billing
$0.05 per citation for the first 10,000 checks per calendar month per API key; $0.03 per citation above. Billing is metered against the current calendar month in the America/Los_Angeles time zone. Monthly caps and overage-billing behavior are configured per key.
3. Fabrication warranty
The same fabrication warranty that applies to CitationSafe's web subscribers applies to Vendor API responses: see the standing warranty terms. A VERIFIED verdict from this API means the citation existed in the authoritative source at the time of the check.
4. Acceptable use
The Service is intended for verifying citations produced by AI legal-tech products before those citations reach end users. You may not: resell the raw API as a competing verification API; use the Service to scrape or rehost CourtListener or any other upstream source; or share your API key with third parties outside your product's server infrastructure.
5. Availability
Target uptime is 99.5% during the MVP period. Downtime credits are not currently offered; either party may terminate for cause on 30 days' notice.
6. Data handling
Request text is used only to perform the requested citation check and is not retained beyond the usage log entry (which stores request metadata — key id, endpoint, citation count, billed cents, request id — never the raw text or quotations you send). See /privacy.
