Citation Safe

Verify medical literature citations

Paste text containing PubMed IDs (e.g. "PMID: 9500320"), DOIs (e.g. "doi:10.1056/NEJMoa2035389"), or clinical trial numbers (e.g. "NCT04368728"). We check each one against a live public source, flag retracted papers and withdrawn or terminated trials, and report exactly what we found, including citations we cannot check yet (bare Vancouver-style journal citations with no identifier).

Do not paste Protected Health Information (PHI). Citation Safe for Medical is not designed to receive PHI and is not a HIPAA business associate — submit citation text only (case names, PMIDs, DOIs, NCT numbers), never patient names, medical record numbers, or other identifiers regulated under HIPAA.

No card required for free tier. Free tier is shared with Citation Safe: 3 verifications/mo.

You must confirm the pasted text does not contain PHI before submitting.

Citation Safe for Medical is a citation-verification workflow tool, not medical or legal advice, and no professional or physician-patient relationship is created by using it. It checks that cited literature exists and whether it has been retracted — it does not evaluate clinical claims. See /disclaimer.
